Wearable Intelligence

A growing niche in the business intelligence market is the Wearable Technology field and all of the devices exploding onto the market.

Wearing out Business Intelligence

If you think about the goals of business intelligence and the benefits it can provide an enterprise in diverse areas such as purchasing, production, analytics, productivity, etc, it only stands to reason that it would spread to real time operations.

Whether it is an assembly line worker getting quick feedback on quality, productivity, or instructions on how to perform a task or perhaps a general surgeon getting video feeds on a complex operation in a third world country from a specialist in the United States, you have to admit that the technology is making huge leaps and our potential to leverage that is greater than any time in history.

Google Glass Wearable IntelligenceSome of the uses are considered traditional applications with a different interface – for example, rather than a laptop or tablet, you have Google Glass – but I would suggest that the “application” role is expanding and merging with business intelligence – the ebb and flow of what it is called and how it is classified will change, but one thing is certain… [Read more…]

Oracle OBIEE Training

Super excited about some Oracle OBIEE training today.

It is more of an end user focus, but in reality, isn’t that what the focus should be? Having a tool available that can provide:

  • Dashboards – customizable, browser based, mobile, etc
  • Analysis – Scorecards, Reports, Collaboration
  • Data Source variety – simplified mode for user, federated data, calculations
  • Connected – updatable sections of the page that cascade to all other sections

is truly invaluable for users at all levels.

Business Intelligence (BI)

Business Intelligence (BI) means a lot of different things to different people so we here at Dweebi.com decided we’d set a definition we all agreed upon… Shouldn’t be too hard since there are currently only two of us, right?
Business Intelligence
Maybe not.  We tried to use existing definitions from all over the web.  Nothing felt right.

Could “Business Intelligence” just be an oxymoron?  Insert your own joke about intelligence in business here… chuckle and move on… :)

We tried to break each word down to their base definitions and merge them back:

  • Business:  “An organization or economic system where goods and services are exchanged for one another or for money. Every business requires some form of investment and enough customers to whom its output can be sold on a consistent basis in order to make a profit.”
  • Intelligence: “Capacity for learning, reasoning, understanding, and similar forms of mental activity; aptitude in grasping truths, relationships, facts, meanings, etc.”

Business Intelligence definition merge:

Business Intelligence is learning about and understanding how your company or competitors create and sell goods or services at a profit and then deriving meaning, relationships, and facts to increase those profits.

I like it.  For now.  Obviously this doesn’t get into the BI software, consulting or product arena, but business people have been performing BI tasks since businesses started to appear in the world…

Wooly Mammoth

We didn’t want to convolute the discussion with vendor slants or preconceived solutions in mind.  You think that “WoolyMammothFurTrenchCoats.com” didn’t evaluate their business model [Read more…]

Business Intelligence Definition

Business Intelligence definition are found all over the web and we needed some common ground. We had to get started somewhere and we thought, why not see how the industry defines Business Intelligence and Big Data. What we found was that it is not very consistent so we consolidated some of the definitions and we will be working on our own soon.  Let us know what you think and if you have a better one please comment and we’ll check it out. Editor’s note: We think we have a better, long term BI definition now – check it out
